THANKSGIVING TIME! Schools will be closed Wednesday, November 25th through Friday, November 27th for the Thanksgiving Holiday. We hope you and your family all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! PROGRESS REPORTS Progress Reports for the 1st half of the 2nd nine weeks will be sent home with your child on November 11. BOOK FAIR IS COMING SOON! The Book Fair will be in the Library the week of November 9th – 13th. Parents are welcome to come by any time that week to shop. With the holidays just around the corner, this is a wonderful opportunity to start your holiday shopping a little early. ORCHARD TEST It’s time for your child to take their Math and Language Arts Orchard Test once again. This is a valuable tool for identifying your child’s progress in Math and LA at this point in the school year. They were tested at the beginning of the school year. The test scores will be analyzed to provide feedback on their individual progress this far. Please encourage your child to do their best. Math Testing October 26-November 13 Language Arts Testing November 16–December 1 7th and 8th grade Spring Break Trip During the week of Spring Break, 7th and 8th grade students are invited to go to Washington D.C. and Williamsburg, VA for a 6 day 7 night stay. You need JavaScript enabled to view it HMS BASKETBALL SEASON IS HERE! Our first basketball game will be November 16th at Hawkins. Our teams will be playing Portland West. All games begin at 5:30 p.m. HMS November Games Monday, November 16th – Portland West at HMS Thursday, November 19th- HMS at Portland East Monday, November 23rd- HMS at Knox Doss Monday, November 30th- Hunter at HMS ALUMINUM TABS Each year, HMS collects aluminum tabs from pop-top cans such as soda cans, soup cans, etc. There will be a contest between the homeroom classes from November 23-February 26 to see which class collects the most. These tabs are then donated to the Ronald McDonald House. He will be leaving in December and will not be returning to HMS until January 2011. Also, Mrs. Carneal’s husband, Patrick, is in the same unit. Join us for a totally awesome Spring Break Trip to Washington D.C. and historic Williamsburg, VA. Spend 6 nights and 7days with your friends, from Saturday, April 11 until Saturday, April 17. There will be a very important informational meeting for interested participants and parents on Tuesday, October 20 from 6:30 to 7:30 in Hawkins Library. HMS FOOTBALL Knox Doss at Hawkins October 1st @ 4:30 pm Hawkins at Ellis October 6th @ 6:30 pm HMS PEP RALLY! There will be a Pep Rally on Oct. 6th in the gym for our game against Ellis. This will also be the last football game for this year! Wear your school colors and show your school spirit. 8th grade - black 7th grade - gold 6th grade - white Spirit points will be taken. REPORT CARD DAY The 1st nine week grading period will end October 2. All report cards will be sent home with students on Tuesday, October 20. PLEASE LABEL CLOTHING! Each year we have many, many items that are never claimed in our Lost and Found. Therefore, it would be very helpful if students put their names in personal items of clothing, especially hoodies, jackets, etc. FALL BREAK! Although there will no school for students on Thursday, October 8, and Friday, October 9, but the official Fall Break is the week of October 12th– 16th.. PICTURE REMAKES School fall picture remakes will be taken on Oct. 23rd. Please make sure your child wears appropriate attire for their picture. Also, various club and team photos will be taken on this day. We sell newspapers about once a month for .25 per issue. Each issue features the latest school news and events and they spotlight student’s artwork & poetry. RED RIBBON WEEK The 22nd Annual Red Ribbon Week will be held the week of October 24-30. Wednesday, Oct. 28 will be the official WEAR RED DAY!J FALL FUNDRAISER DJ PARTY! The Fall Fundraiser DJ Party will be in the gym during 6th and 7th periods on Tuesday, October 6. HMS RECYCLE Please send your empty ink & toner cartridges to school for recycling. COMPUTERS FOR EDUCATION Thanks to all the teachers and students who helped to make this a successful fundraiser for Hawkins Library. There were about 125 booklets returned. Also, congratulations to Brandon Stalls, who won the drawing for the scooter and those students whose name was drawn for the ice cream party!

On this website you have access to My GradeBook.com, lunch menu, sports information, student handbook, newsletter calendar and lots of other useful facts. Grade Book My GradeBook helps you stay informed with your student’s progress. You can view upcoming and past assignments, view grades online and keep track of any incomplete or missing assignments. This web-site is great when your student is absent and would like to see what they missed for the day. Computers for Education The Library will start the Computers for Education program the week of Sept. 14 th. This program will cost absolutely nothing but a little of your time. Booklets will be passed out to each student to take home. The booklet should be returned to the library when it is completed. The student will receive a gift and their name will be added to a drawing for an ice cream party. The library will receive $5.50 for each completed booklet.Soldiers’ Corner We would like to welcome Mr. Rick Sampson back to Hawkins this school year. Mr. Sampson returned from Iraq in July where he served for a year. |
