Hawkins Middle School

Awards Night:

In an effort to honor students for their academic achievements during the course of the school year, Hawkins Middle hosts an Awards Night each spring.  The evening focuses on academics and provides an opportunity for the staff of Hawkins Middle, parents, the community, and other stakeholders to celebrate our students and their accomplishments.  Awards are specific to grade levels and subject areas.  A brief description each award is provided below.

Award Descriptions:

Duke Talent Program - Duke TIP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving academically gifted and talented students. Duke TIP works with students, their families, and educators to identify and recognize those with highest academic potential. The 7th Grade Talent Search identifies bright seventh graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending middle school.  Students are identified to participate in Duke TIP by scoring at the 95th percentile in one or more TCAP subtests. Candidates are invited to take the ACT college entrance exam as seventh graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities.

Presidential Award – Only available for 8th Grade students.  This award is given for academic achievement during a student’s three year tenure in middle school.  Students are to earn a grade point average of 90 on a 100 point scale, (an A on a letter scale or a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale).
